The 40K Club Champ

Posted by Gaz on September 21st, 2011

Things kicked off at the club last week with our search for the 40K Champion.  Two games were played with Jacks marines squaring off against Chris’s Angels of Death, and Stef’s power armoured finest shooting at my Tyranids.

Chris blazed away at Jack and wiped him out.  I deployed within spitting distance of Stef’s marines and they didn’t like that…

So the table at the end of the first week:

  1. Chris P1 W1
  2. Gaz P1 W1
  3. Stef P1 W0 L1
  4. Jack P1 W0 L1

The new manager(ess) of GW has arrived in store so i’ll see if she plans on carrying the store event forward.

Being Held at Maelstrom Games

Posted by Gaz on July 12th, 2011

Quite fancy this one:

Iron Wrath I

Saturday July 30th 2011 at The Eye of the Storm in Mansfield – 4 games, Steamroller scoring with vps scored instead of Strength of Schedule as the sort mechanism.

There will be 3 games of 35pts and 1 game of 50pts. This is your chance to try out the new models shown in “Wrath”. So, models do not have to be painted as there are no soft scores in this event. You may proxy any of the models shown in Wrath, but please make sure it is as clear as possible for your opponent exactly what they are supposed to be! The idea is this is a bit of fun and gives everyone the chance to try out the new elements in Wrath “competitively”, rather than having to wait for them to come out.

The cost for the day, which includes a buffet lunch and prizes will be £10. Tickets are on sale here:

http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/index.p … aw_012_000

Tournament schedule:

8.30am – 9.30am Registration, welcome and H & S briefing
9.30am – 11.00am Game One 35pts Incursion
11.00am – 11.30am break
11.30am – 1.00pm Game two 35pts Sacrifice
1.00pm – 1.45pm Lunch
1.45pm – 3.45pm Game three 50pts Outflank, Outfight, Outlast
3.45pm – 4.15pm afternoon break
4.15pm – 5.45pm Game four 35pts Overrun

We are not using timed turns for this event, each game will last for a set time after which “dice down” will be called. As the end of each round approaches – only start another turn if there is enough time for both players to get an equal number of turns. If you start and dice down is called, shout me over and I will allow extra time to make sure the turns balance out. Please don’t abuse this leniency though! [-X

Army construction:

As the main idea behind this event is to give players the chance to play with, and play against, the new elements of Wrath in a semi competitive environment I don’t want to put any unnecessary restrictions on the army composition, or on the number of casters you can field. So, you need to bring 1 – 3 x 35pt lists, with any combination of casters/units. There is no shared FA so you have the opportunity to try out different casters with the same units if you wish, or try a single caster with three different lists. It’s up to you.

In addition you will need a single 50pt list.

For the 35pt games, when you arrive at your table simply show your opponents all three lists, and chose which list you are going to use in the normal Steamroller manner. There is no requirement to use each list, nor is a list discarded once you use it.

Prize certificates for 1st, 2nd & 3rd will be awarded, as well as for the Fastest Caster Kill, and the fastest win by scenario. So be sure to yell out when your games end! Winners will also get Maelstrom Dollars.

It’s a bit of fun this one so please approach it with that frame of mind, and be patient with each other when faced with unfamiliar models.

Blood & Oil 2010 Results

Posted by Stef on November 8th, 2010

Hi Guys!

Now the dust has settled we can give a review of how our first Hordes & Warmachine tournament went! All in all, as our first big tournament I’m happy with how the day went (nothing exploded!), it was great to see a lot of people from out of town who love the game and it was good to chat to new people all day long. There are a lot of things that could have been done better and when we get together over the next week or so to review how the day went and start planning next year’s event we’ll discuss these things and how we can put on a better event next year.

One main thing that was unfortunate was the system we used for results etc. While it did the job perfectly for marking down results and pairing people for each round, when it came to the final standings it decided to put everyone in an odd order. Therefore we had to manually reorder the table to get the top 3 and wooden spoon in order to announce the winners, but then we were unable to put the final standings on the wall. Now I’ve had chance to rank everyone properly here are the final standings:

Aaron Kenny (Sonny) – Circle Orboros
Lee Upton – Skorne
Jonathan Taylor-Yorke – Khador – Best Painted
Mc Lovin – Protectorate of Menoth
Dan Kirk – Protectorate of Menoth
Jere Koskela – Legion of Everblight
Felix Hughes – Protectorate of Menoth
Andrew Hornby – Protectorate of Menoth
Robert Michell – Cryx
Tyler Evans – Khador
Robert Cornell – Trollbloods
Chris Horney – Protectorate of Menoth
Ross Knill-MacAthur – Legion of Everblight
Richard Would – Legion of Everblight
Andy Garrard – Retribution of Scyrah
Jack Shenton – Legion of Everblight
Kill Dill – Trollbloods
Barnaby Smart – Mercenaries
Paul Brown – Cryx
Gary Burgess – Mercenaries
Dan Melia – Mercenaries
Lee Oswin – Retribution of Scyrah
Ruth Taylor-Yorke – Circle Orboros
Gareth Higgins – Mercenaries – Sportsmanship Award
Paul Cocks – Mercenaries – Best Painted Runner Up
Paul Watson – Protectorate of Menoth
Lee Oswin Jr – Skorne
Pete Killam – Circle Orboros
Michael Dabbs – Khador
Stu Herrod – Cygnar
Simon Gridley – Legion of Everblight
Jamie Wright – Minions – Unpainted Army Raffle Winner
Darrell Taylor – Minions
Mark Evans – Protectorate of Menoth
Geoffrey Willoughby – Cygnar
Kurt Emery – Trollbloods

Again thanks all who came, any and all feedback is welcomed and we hope to see you again next year! I have some photos on my phone that I need to transfer to my PC so I’ll put those up soon!
